From racehorse, to show horse, to rodeo horse,
Darth Raider is the model of versatility. Sired by
Surface Raider (TB) and out of Dusty Rose
Bonanza, the two year old received his ROM in
racing before heading to the show pen. There he
racked up numerous championships, all-around
and high-point awards.
Following his successful show career, Darth Raider
made yet another career change, this time back to
the timed-event side of the arena. As a
bulldogging mount, the sorrel gelding carried Jay
Dysart to numerous high school and NLBRA wins,
as well as a seventh place finish at the 2001
College National Finals Rodeo.

After an unproductive run at the two year old
futurities, the filly by Cut Away (TB) and out of
Finesse was retired from racing and sold in the fall
of her two year old year. Her next venture was that
of an all-around rodeo horse for Stacy Dysart, then a
teenager. Joyeux breakaway roped, ran barrels and
poles, and she goat-tied.
The less than stellar ex-racer carried her owner up
the rodeo ranks, with victories in various events in
the CJRA, NLBRA and NIRA associations. Joyeux
has since become a one event horse, and is used
solely as a calf roping horse. Her career highlights
include numerous all-around championships, a
CJRA championship in barrel racing, and a NLBRA
reserve world championship in breakaway roping.

After surgery, and three years of pasture rest and relaxation it was obvious that
Poquerville was ready to do something productive. Despite much hesitation, he was
sold to a young girl who had dreamed for years of owning her own horse—Poquerville
would be her first. Together, the two have accomplished the unthinkable. The injured
ex-racer—he shows under the name “Jamaican Me Crazy”—resides in a stall adorned
with ribbons and winning jumping photos, a reminder that anything is possible.
The racing hopes for Poquerville were high. The
well-bred bay colt by Far Out East and out of
Monterey Pearl was an expensive yearling
purchase, and he was living up to expectations
during his morning workouts. However, his second
race would be his last. Poquerville suffered a
condylar fracture and his racing career came to an
abrupt end.
Whiskey Mountain got a late start to the track--he
didn't race until he was four--but the extra prep
time didn't do him much good. The son of El
Guaraguo out of the Nevada Prince mare, Nevada
Whiskey, fared much better in the show ring.
The brown gelding and his new owner started
accumulating awards less than one year off the
track. At five, Whiskey Mountain, who showed
under the name Justin Time, was the Colorado
State Fair 4-H Champion in English and Top-Five
overall in all age divisions. The gelding
continued his winning ways as he aged, notching
numerous english, western and high-point
championships in Colorado.
